Belgrade is the most flourishing heart of culture in Serbia! It offers an assorted selection of arts and cultural attractions: from art exhibitions to music performances, museums, architecture, theatre, photography and much more.
Every year about 11.000 national and International cultural-artistic actvities take place in Belgrade: festivals such as FEST (Film Festival), BITEF (Theatre Festival), BELEF (Summer Festival) and BEMUS (Music Festival) along with the Book Fair and others.

Furthermore Belgrade is the centre of the highest national art and culture related institutions such as the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Library, the National Museum and the National Theatre. The capital of Serbia hosts the most eminent architecture works, e.g. Belgrade Fortress, numerous cultural monuments, archeological sites and other cultural treasures. Moreover there are a lot of museums to choose from, including the Museum of Applied Art and Nikola Tesla Museum.

As for fine arts, frescoes and iconostases adorn many orthodox churches in Belgrade. The list of famous painters includes the romanticist Đura Jakšić, (also poet and bohemien), Nadežda Petrovićand Sava Šumanović, Bata Mihajlović, Petar Lubarda orMića Popović.

Belgrade is also the homeland of Ivo Andric, Nobel Prize in literature, his most important work "The Bridge on the Drina" has been written right in Belgrade.

Generally speaking, Belgraders are outgoing and friendly people: irony, self-criticism and black humor are the attitudes that helped Serbs overcome difficult times. Among its visitors Belgrade women are beautiful and with a sense for fashion and style while men are tall and handsome. Belgraders are big sports fans, they love particularly basketball, soccer and tennis. During the day Belgraders enjoy cafès both for a short break and for business meetings, meanwhile during the evening clubs and discos are always crowded: the vibrant and ever-changing nightlife is something not to be miss when visiting Belgrade!

Ivo Andric
Novelist and short stories writer, Ivo Andic won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. He was born in the village of Dolac (Bosnia) in 1892. His literary career as a poet began in 1914 with Hrvatska mlada lirika (Young Croatian Lyrics). After the WW1 he published two books of lyrical prose reflecting his experience of imprisonment during the war. Then followed a long period in which Andric concentrated on the writing of short stories such as Put Alije Djerzeleza (The Trip of Alija Djerzelez) and Pripovetke (Stories). During WW2, Andric wrote his three-best works: Na Drini cuprija (The Bridge on the Drina), Travnicka hronika (Bosnian Story), and Gospodjica (The Woman from Sarajevo). The first two of these works, like most of Andric's work, deal with Bosnia history. Later, in 1948 he wrote about present-day people and problems: Gospodjica and Nove pripovetke (New Stories). Finally in 1960 he published another collection of stories with the title Lica (Faces) and several essays such as Zapisi o Goji, (Notes on Goya).
Momo Kapor
Momčilo "Momo" Kapor was a novelist, short story writer and painter. He was born in Sarajevo in 1937 and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He wrote more than 40 books that have been traslated in 8 languages. His most famous works are: Poslednji let za Sarajevo (Last flight to Sarajevo') and Zelena čoja Montenegra (Montenegro Green Carpet). Furthermore several successful films have been based upon his novels such us Una: ljubavni roman (One).
Dušan Radović
Children's writer, poet, journalist and TV editor. He was known for especially children's poetry, books, television screenplays, and for his aphorisms. He was the editor of "Pionirske novine", editor of Radio Belgrade's Children's programme, editor of the Radio-Television Belgrade's Children's programme, editor of the Poletarac magazine, journalist at the Borba newspaper. His works have been translated into all major world languages. Radović won several awards: Mlado pokolenje (Young Generation), the award of Zmaj Children Games, awards of Sterija's Theatre, Seventh of July award and others. Radović best known works are three books of aphorisms: Beograde, dobro jutro.
Nikola Tesla
Inventor, mechanical engineer, and electrical engineer. he gave an important contribution to the discovery of commercial electricity and is best known for his many revolutionary developments in the field of electromagnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current (AC) electric power systems, including the polyphase system of electrical distribution and the AC motor.
Goran Bregović
One of the most internationally known modern Musician and composer of the Balkans, he currently lives between Paris and Belgrade, where he settled down during the Yugoslav Wars. However he has recently announced that he will return to live in Sarajevo with his family. Bregović has composed for such varied artists as Iggy Pop and Cesária Évora. He rose to fame playing guitar with his rock band Bijelo dugme. Among his better known scores are Emir Kusturica’s films (Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Underground). Bregović’s compositions, extending Balkan musical inspirations to innovative extremes, draw upon European classicism and Balkan rhythms. Bregović's music carries Bosnian, Serbian and Romani themes and is a fusion of popular music with traditional polyphonic music from the Balkans, tango and brass bands.
Novak Djokovic
Professional tennis player, who is ranked World No. 3 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He has won two Grand Slam singles titles, the 2008 and 2011 Australian Open championships, becoming the first player representing Serbia to win a Grand Slam singles title and the youngest player in the open era to have reached the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam events. Moreover he was also the runner-up at the 2007 and 2010 US Open tournaments and won a bronze medal representing Serbia at the 2008 Olympic Games. In addition, Djokovic won the Tennis Masters Cup in 2008 and six Masters Series tournaments. Finally in 2010, he led Serbia to win the Davis Cup. Furthermore he is a double winner of the award The Best Sportperson of Serbia and award for The Best Sportsman by Olympic Committee of Serbia.
Vilade Divac
Professional basketball player who spent most of his career in the NBA. Divac was among the first group of European Basketball players to transfer to the NBA in the late 1980s and was named as one of Euroleague's 50 greatest contributors. On August 20, 2010, Divac was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in recognition of his play in international competition.
Nikola Grbic
Volleyball player, he won the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games and a the bronze one in Atlanta 1996. His international victories include a silver medal in the 1998 FIVB Men's World Championship and a bronze medal and a gold medal in the in the 2010 FIVB Men's World Championship, as well as a gold at the 2001 European Championship.
